Context
Prompts & Paints is a boardgame designed to make you think about the complicated relationship between artists and Artificial Intelligence. It was made in two weeks as part of a module called 'Free Space', in which we were asked to design something that comments on AI.
The game forces you to think about which path to choose; the easy path which can create faster or the hard path that might yield more profit.
It works by having you complete commissions for different people who all have different preferences. Depending on what kind of art you make you receive points, which determine the winner of the game. Making AI art costs less resources, but also rewards you less points, whereas making real art is more costly and rewards you more points.
The commission cards are designed to all have different preferences. Because these preferences are optional you can choose to ignore them in favour of certain actions. This way people are forced to make decisions.
To make the game more fun we added an element of unpredictability. Every round an event card is drawn, resulting in dynamic gameplay. This way no two games are ever the same.
